Specialist Autism Services

What does it do?
Specialist Autism Services – Specialist Autism Services has worked exclusively for and with adults (18+) on the autism spectrum and their families since 1999. We are a non-profit organisation that works with the charity Sacar to provide autism specific services across the Yorkshire region. We now provide a range of services including group social skills workshops (through an autism-specific learning programme), information and guidance, autism-specific counselling, employment support, autism awareness training and community outreach support. Under the name Autism First we also provide bespoke support for adults with autism and additional needs.

Who is it for?
Adults with autism (18+) across Yorkshire (Bradford, Shipley, Leeds & York).

We accept referrals from GPs, social workers, other health professionals, parents/ carers and self referrals.

SAS have a new project called Employed By Me and focuses on supporting participants to decide if self employment would be an option for them. The project is one year long, split into 12 cohorts. So one person would attend discussion based workshops each Tuesday morning for one month. Then we will offer up to 5 1:1 support sessions for each individual to discuss specific areas in further detail and progress towards self employment. This project is open to anyone with an ASC diagnosis or actively seeking a diagnosis. As long as you want to think about self employment, then this project would be worth giving a try!
