Airedale Translation/Interpreting Service

What does it do?
The department provides a 24/7 face to face and telephone Interpreting Service for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust patients and staff within the hospital and the community covering clinics, wards and all appointments. It also translates reports, letters and leaflets as required. A core team within the hospital covers languages such as Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Slovakian, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian and many more languages are provided through a register of Bank Interpreters. The serviceDCIS@bradford.gov.uk strives to improve the patient experience and satisfaction, by empowering them to communicate with clinicians, and to be involved in shared decision making.

Who is it for?
The service is provided for all Trust staff and patients within the hospital and local community covering areas as far as Barnoldswick, Bingley, Bradford and Ilkley. As well as bookings for the NHS, the team of interpreters also attend bookings (at a cost) for private external clients, companies and organisations.

GP’s can request interpreters in patient referral letters to the hospital and the Trust’s appointments office will book an interpreter. A patient may request an interpreter and a Trust member of staff will book through the Interpreting Services booking office A private (non NHS) client, company or organisation can book an interpreter directly through the interpreting services booking office on 01535 292811
