Bradford Children's Physiotherapy service

Physiotherapists aim to improve the quality of life of children and young people. We help to develop independence, physical fitness and well-being wherever possible. For some children and young people,  the focus is on helping movement, good posture, comfort and sensory learning.

We are based at St Luke’s Hospital, and some appointments are given there. We also see children in a variety of other places, such as nurseries, children’s’ centres, mainstream schools, special schools and in the home. We also work closely with other services, for example, orthotics and wheelchair services, and the Child Development Service.

Who is our service for?
We see babies, children and young people with different physical difficulties from the age of 0 up to 19 (if they are still in full time special education). Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants provide assessment, treatment, activities, equipment, and advice, according to need.

We see children with a range of conditions, including:
•    Physical disabilities and difficulties, with different causes, such as neurological or neuromuscular conditions
•    Motor co-ordination difficulties like Developmental Coordination Disorder (Dyspraxia)
•    Developmental delay / developmental impairment

•    problems with muscles and joints (MSK)
•    complex breathing/chest problems

Referral to the service is by your GP or Consultant.
