SEND Auditors

What are SEND Auditors?

The SEND Transformation Programme identified a need for internal SEND Auditors as part of the review of the current services.

This team is newly formed and will feed into the Quality Assurance Reporting Structure.

Whilst the team sits within SEND Services, it is part of the SEND Transformation & Compliance Team to allow for an independent reporting structure from the SEND Assessment Team.

The main remit of the role is to provide independent monitoring and scrutiny of EHC plans for children, ensuring appropriate and sufficient plans are developed that meet the needs of Children & Young People.

This is following the OFSTED Monitoring Visit in December 2022, which highlights the need to improve the variable quality of EHC plans including plans which do not fully describe the provision that Children & Young people with SEND need. You can find the SEND inspection report here:  WSOA

Auditing at Level 2 refers to the Quality Assurance taking place after an EHC Plan is issued or amended. For more information please see our Quality Assurance Framework

The SEND Auditors will audit EHC Plans:

  • produced by each locality SEN Team;
  • produced by the Complex & Vulnerable Casework Team;
  • Thematically based on the forward thematic auditing schedule.

Termly Update - Summer 2023

Please find our Termly Update here on the auditing that has been undertaken and the key achievements for this term as well as our planned achievements for next term.
