Inclusion In The Park - SIP Short Break

The Specialist Inclusion Project are offering a Short Break in the park this summer for children and young people with diagnosed disabilities, aged 8 - 18.

Our Short Breaks Services have been closed since March 2020 following government guidelines. It is with regret due to the guidance of no overnight that this year we have had to cancel our Pineapples Summer Camp

However, as the world makes tentative steps to attain a new level of normality safely, we have sought and gained approval to make our families a short break offer in Summer 2020. Please note in the event of a local lockdown this service will be amended to reflect the advice issued.

SIP this year will be running Inclusion In the Park:

Week 1 - Monday 10th  August 2020

Week 2- Monday 17th  August 2020

Week 3 -Monday 24th August 2020

Week 4 – Tuesday 1st September  2020 – we will add additional session to Monday families this week as we are closed bank holiday Monday.

You will be asked to choose one location and either am or pm. You are signing your young person up to 4 weeks of support in the chosen location and at this time. Once your young person has attended no changes can be made.

The cost for is £5 per session, which is to be paid on our online system before the session. Any concerns with cost or affordability please contact the staff to discuss. The total cost is £20.00 per child.

Our staffing ratios are 1:3 (1 staff member to 3 young people). We understand that at times such as personal care, young people may require slightly higher levels of support which will be provided to them; however, the staffing place is 1:3.

All our staff are Enhanced DBS checked, experienced and trained in Team Teach, medication, personal care, ability awareness, moving and handling plus many more. They will be a mix of staff from a variety of backgrounds and all have different life and work experiences which make our staff team very diverse, friendly and supportive. All our staff have had Covid-19/PPE training. Our staff will be wearing a face a covering for their and your young persons safety. Your young person will be supported by a maximum of 4 staff members over the 4 weeks.

We have a support bubble of staff without children in place on-hand in case of emergency or crisis to step in to ensure support for all is provided. These staff will also ensure support in times of bathroom to ensure cleaning standards are maintained.

Due to maintaining social distance, we will be proving parents with a number for their staff bubble leader, who can answer questions and provider feedback via text or call. We ask parents drop off at a social distance and use the number if needed to support our team to maintain social distancing.

We have arranged the time outside of the need for medication with the expectation to emergency medication. We can support with emergency medication and will identify this in the application form.

Arriving and departure

We have four bubbles per venue – that will have their own pick up and drop off point – your bubble leader with be in touch to tell you where this is.

We ask parents maintain social distancing at drop off and pick up. To reduce the number of people our staff interact with, we ask the person dropping a young person off is the same person collecting.

We regret to inform you, we cannot allow young people from different households to arrive and depart together. We ask all children are supported by their own family unit to session.

Covid – Extras

Due to Covid we have additional tasks that we are required to carry out. We will be texting parents each morning, to request that they confirm that no one in the household has had contact or been informed that they have been in contact with anyone that is positive for Covid-19 by track and trace. We cannot support young people until we have had confirmation from parents that to their knowledge there is on risk of transmission.

Should a young person or staff member be informed that they need to self isolate the bubble in which this has occurred will be suspended with immediate effect and information and advice from track and trace will be sought.

We ask as it a 2 hour session that young people arrive –

  • having used the bathroom,

  • having washed their hands for at least 20 seconds

  • with no personal items, food or drinks from home. We will provide.

We will be asking parents on days that it is raining or cold to ensure suitable clothing is worn, it will only be on the occasion of severe weather we would not proceed

We will be asking parents every Thursday to feedback weekly, to ensure that the service is meeting the needs of the young people and to feedback to higher management, it will be important that we gain feedback to continue offering this service

Thank you
