Bradford Perinatal Support Service

Families must live within the Bradford Better Start areas: Bowling /Barkerend / Bradford Moor / Little Horton

We work with mum / main carer during the Perinatal period: through pregnancy and up to the child’s first birthday

A mum may benefit from a referral to the Perinatal Support Service if she is experiencing any of the following symptoms which relate to maternal mental health, social isolation or attachment and bonding;

• Is Mum concerned about post-natal depression/anxiety?

• Is Mum worried about bonding with baby?

• Has Mum been diagnosed with perinatal depression/anxiety?

• Has Mum lost interest in things or feeling really slowed down?

• Is Mum staying at home a lot or feeling unable to/worried about going out?

• Is Mum feeling anxious or stressed about things that they normally wouldn’t?

• Has Mum suffered depression/anxiety in the past?

• Is Mum on medication for depression/anxiety?

• Does Mum have limited support networks and/or reports feeling alone?

• Has Mum had difficulties during the pregnancy or did she find the birth traumatic?

The Perinatal Support Service is an early intervention service offering support to mum’s where they may be struggling with their emotional health and wellbeing or where they have been diagnosed with a low to moderate level mental illness.

The support available can include the following and will be tailored to meet identified needs:

• Assessment of needs by a Perinatal Coordinator

• Access to ‘My Baby & Me’ group work to support bonding and attachment with baby

• A Peer Support volunteer to provide emotional / listening visits and /or support to access local community groups
