Bradford Maze

Bradford Maze: Domestic Abuse Prevention Programme (DAPP)

Overview

This group work programme is aimed at heterosexual adult men, aged 22 +, who are using any form of domestic abuse in their intimate relationships.
The programme model is targeted at men in heterosexual relationships due to the gendered nature of domestic abuse.
We offer one to one sessions for people in same-sex relationships and female perpetrators who may be abusive to their male partners.
The group is not an ‘anger management’ programme; however we do include a module which focuses on managing anger. It is important that people are aware of this when discussing the programme, as our primary focus will be on power and control within their relationship and not on anger.
Overall Aim

The aim of the group is to support men to recognise their own behaviour in their relationship, and support them to find non-abusive alternatives to this, with the ultimate aim of reducing risk of harm to their (ex) partners and children.
Topics include; jealousy, emotional abuse, effective communication and getting child-centred. It is a 28 week programme, comprising of 3 initial assessments – to assess motivation and whether they are ready to start the group, a mid way 1:1 – and a final assessment upon completion.
Referral Process

To make a referral please complete a referral form, including any information you are aware of about the behaviours which have taken place within the relationship - this helps us in our initial assessment with the client.
Once we have received a referral, we will aim to contact the client to arrange our initial assessment.  If they are assessed as suitable we will invite them to attend our group session which will take place on a Tuesday evening 6.30-8.30pm in Shipley.
Partner Support

We have a partner support worker who will contact and offer support to anyone whose partner is engaging in work with Bradford Maze.
We Also Provide

1:1 Work - provided on assessment of need for men, for whom the group work programme may not be suitable, e.g. people with additional learning needs or language barriers.
A Young Man’s Group Work Programme - for 16-21 year old men.  This is a 16 week programme delivering similar topics.  The referral process is the same as above.
