This website is run by Bradford Council. 6B Digital has been commissioned by Bradford Council to provide the Local Offer website’s software / hardware, software Licensing, support and maintenance. The website content maintenance and quality assurance is carried out by the SEND Transformation and Compliance team part of  Bradford Council.

Using this website

For example, that means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website aren’t fully accessible:

  • most older PDF documents aren’t fully accessible to screen reader software
  • some of our online forms are difficult to navigate using just a keyboard

Reporting accessibility problems with this website

In order to make our website as accessible as possible we have added Browsealoud to our website to make our content more accessible for users requiring reading and translation support.

To launch Browsealoud you need to click on to the “Language and Accessibility” toolbar at the bottom of the right hand side of any page on the Local Offer website, where you activate browsealoud to start using it.

A full list of features that Browsealoud aids with can be found below:

  • Simplify the page

Some link text doesn’t make sense when read on its own (for example, ‘click here’).

We plan to fix the existing links by September 2020. When we publish new content we’ll make sure link text meets accessibility standards.

Issues with PDFs and other documents

Many of our older PDFs and Word documents don’t meet accessibility standards - for
example, they may not be marked up so they’re accessible to a screen reader.

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. We have service providers who access the Local Offer website using their accounts to update their own information published on the Local Offer website and upload PDFs. All information that is provided by services using their account is monitored in terms of accessibility before publishing live. The site uses a software called site improve to identify which content pages require attention in terms of accessibility.

The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services..

Any new PDFs or Word documents published by Bradford Council will meet accessibility standards. We cannot ensure that PDFs or Documents uploaded by third parties will meet these standards
