Disabled Children's Register (DCR)

What is a Disabled Childrens Register?

All local authorities must have a Disabled Children’s Register (DCR) under the Children’s Act 1989 although it is voluntary to join.  It is a register of families with children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), aged 0 to 25 years, and practitioners who work with them.

Bradford Council has a statutory duty to keep and maintain the register although it is voluntary for people to join it.

Why should I join the register?

The register helps Bradford Council and partners with planning what services and support may be needed in the area for children and young people. It will also inform the future needs of adult services across the Bradford District.

The Disability Register is used to send out information about SEND support, services, what’s new, consultation and newsletters via the Local Offer subscription email.

Who is it for?

You can join the Disability Register as a parent or carer of a child or young person with SEND, Young Person (16-25yrs) or as a practitioner who works with children and young people with SEND.

What information will I be asked?
