Work Placement Service

What does it do?

Work Experience and Placements (Xperience) Team provide a brokerage service to schools to co-ordinate work experience placements for young people from aged 14 upwards. The team contact a range of employers on behalf of schools to secure suitable work placements and carry out all the necessary health & safety/insurance checks prior to the placement start date.

Who is it for?

Schools, colleges and training providers that wish to contract with Xperience.

How do I access it?

via your school Work Experience or Careers Co-ordinator If you have left school and are interested in a Council based work placement then please contact us on the email address below stating your specific requirements.

How can I find out more?

The Work Placement Team can provide placements in:

  • general clerical work
  • libraries
  • sports and recreation
  • marketing/events
  • horticulture

The Work Placement Team cannot provide:

  • job vacancies
  • paid work placements
  • traineeships
  • apprenticeships

We are not able to provide placements in retail, manufacturing and trades such as joinery, plumbing or electrical work.

The Work Placement Team does not deal with requests for the above areas.  All paid work, job vacancies, traineeships and apprenticeships that are currently available within the Council are advertised on the Council vacancy website.

The role of the Work Placement Team:

  • To arrange placements for schools and other organisations/individuals.
  • To provide a central point of co-ordination between organisations requesting placements and the various council teams and departments receiving them
  • Help local people to develop work related skills
  • Seek to encourage people to consider a career in local government

We try very hard to accommodate requests but the procedures below must be followed:

Pre 18 placements (Year 10/11/12/13 students)

School placement requests for students must be directed to the school Work Experience Co-ordinator or Careers Leader in your school in the first instance.

Independent schools must liaise with Xperience.

Please do not contact the Work Placement Team directly to arrange individual Pre 18 placements, as requests must be received from Xperience/School Co-ordinators.  You will be referred back to your appropriate Co-ordinator.

Adult/Post 18 placements

If you are an adult/Post 18 student and want to request a work placement, please email: xperience@bradford.gov.uk  with your request and details about yourself including name, contact details, current employment status or current educational establishment you attend and area of interest within the Council.  Please also state what contribution you can make to the department in terms of knowledge and experience.

*Please also state if you are on a training course with a local training provider and need specific experience to support G/NVQs etc.

Bradford Council receives a high demand for placement requests from schools and other organisations and it is not always feasible to host all placement requests.  To assist the Team in placing work placements within the Council, please allow a minimum of 6 weeks before the placement request start date.  Placement requests received at short notice cannot be accommodated.
