Bradford Young Carers Service (Barnardo’s)

What does it do?

A service providing support to young carers and their families. The service is run through a partnership between Barnardo’s, Bradford Council’s children’s services and the local clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) who are now responsible for delivering some NHS services.

Who is it for?

Children and young people aged 5 to 18 years. These children/young people are helping to care for a relative due to them having a serious illness and/or disability (including mental health and substance misuse). The caring responsibilities they carry out are having a negative impact upon their lives either; socially, emotionally, physically or educationally.

How do I access it?

You can refer to the service yourself, or through your child’s school or any other professional working with you or your family. See below under Resources for copy of referral form. If you are unsure whether the child/young person is a young carer please use the scoring sheet (also below in Resources). If you do use the scoring sheet please send it in with the referral form. The referral form must have both parent and child/young person signature on the last page otherwise it won’t be accepted.
