Mencap - Gig Buddies

What is Gig Buddies?

Gig Buddies is a project that matches people with a learning disability with a volunteer who shares similar interests to engage nightlife activities together.

The aim of the project is to support people with a learning disability to develop new social circles and informal support networks to go out and do the things they enjoy.

Bradford Safeguarding Adults Board Community Engagement Event, 27th June 2018

The Bradford Safeguarding Adults Board is now writing its strategic plan for the next three years. This plan will explain how the Board will work in the future to keep people safe. The plan will be reviewed annually.

The consultation is opened to everyone including partner agencies, staff across all organisations and sectors, service users, carers, community groups and the wider public.

The Safeguarding Adults Board wants to hear the views and ideas of the public and partner organisations on its new proposed plan and we’ve already held a number of consultation events.

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust

Michael Firth has been caring for his disabled daughter Susan, a wheelchair user with Microcephaly, for 10 years. Michael feels the launch of the Trust’s Carers Hub will help to support carers in meaningful ways. 

Michael said: “I think the Trust’s Carers Hub is a good idea because carers need a place to go where they can call their own. Knowing there is a place to go to have a cup of coffee and a chat when you need it makes a big difference.”

AWARE Video 

Airedale & Wharfedale Autism Resource (AWARE) is a group especially for families, children, young people who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The video shows some of the activities young people can get involved with at some of the groups.

Doe Park Outdoor activities

Doe Park is Bradford’s specialist centre for outdoor activities and education, situated on Doe Park reservoir in Denholme. Canoeing, sailing and windsurfing courses are available for families and individuals. Pay & Play sessions are available during the summer. There are accessible boats and kayaks and ramped access into the water.

Who is it for? Children and young people and their families.

How do I access it? Open May to September. Contact the centre for further information and prices.


Clockhouse is a Respite Centre in Keighley providing Short Breaks for young people with complex needs. It provides young people with the opportunity to make friends and develop independence, and families a break from their caring role.

Shine Together Youth Group

Shine Together is a youth group for disabled young people aged 13-25.
